Spectrophotometer
Safety

1. Spectrophotometer operates in the UV range. Never look directly into the source of UV light.

Operations

1. Since the spectrophotometer operates in the UV range, square-bottomed cuvettes of silica or quartz are required to hold the samples for UV testing. Pyrex and most plastic do not transmit well in the UV spectrum.

2. Give the sample thirty minutes to warm up after you have turned it on.

3. Load the samples so that the samples are closest to the right-hand wall. Use the keyboard to run the samples. Read the manuals to work the different options available.

4. Calibration may be necessary. See manuals for instructions.

5. Dispose of the samples as per normal procedure.

Maintenance

1. Rinse the cuvettes with deionized water throughly. The cuvettes need to be cleaned in a mild alkaline solution. Strong internal stains may need to be removed with 6N hydrochloric acid and de-ionized water.

2. Most parts of the machine need to be services by a qualified service representative. If troubles start, see the manual for which parts can be serviced your self and which parts need professional help. Easily repairable problems include source replacement, source verification, source peaking, fuse replacement, air filter replacement, and printer problems.
