Note: Electrophoretic devices use these in order to deliver either a constant voltage, constant current, or constant power (in some). There is a danger of electrocution resulting from misuse of this device.
These devices are so varied that there is not one guide, but there are a few basic guidelines.
1. Most have LED displays in which you dial in the minimum and maximum voltage you want. NEVER TURN ON THE VOLTAGE OUTPUT UNTIL YOU HAVE EVERYTHING SET UP CORRECTLY.
2. The instrument must always be grounded when used. Never use a two-pin plug or socket (always a three pronged).
3. Use only electrical wiring rated at over 500V (or better yet, over any maximum the device is capable of).
4. Make sure all heat vents are uncovered.
5. The gel becomes electrified when the device is activated. Never though the electrified gel, ESPICIALLY not two fingers as that will complete the electric circuit. This should lead to a voltage jump across your body in excess of 1000V.
6. Before touching any of the leads, set the Output Control to OFF and wait ten seconds (closer to fifteen) to let the capacitors discharge. Capacitor discharge in a logarithmic fashion.
