Use of Toluene for organic chemistry related to

Chemicals |
Toluene is toxic and extremely
flammable. Its vapor may travel considerable distance to source of ignition
and flash back. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions. |

Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) |
Wear safety glasses, chemical-resistant
gloves, and lab coat or apron for personal protection. |

Environmental / Ventilation Controls |
Use only in the chemical fume hoods
located in 351 or 352. |

Special Handling Procedures & Storage Requirements |
Store in chemical hood base cabinets or
hazardous materials storage room. Use in a fume hood with al sources of
ignition eliminated. |

Spill and Accident
Procedures |
Remove all sources of ignition from the
spill area. Cover area with an activated carbon absorbent, place in closed
container, and transport outdoors. Ventilate area and wash spill site after
material pick up is complete. In case of contact with skin or eyes, wash with
copious amounts of water for 15
minutes. The spill kit is located next to the bookcase in 352. |

Waste Disposal |
Place in an appropriate container,
label with Ò Hazardous Waste LabelÓ and contact EH & S (5-2848) for
collection. |
