Mullins Lab Standard Operating Procedure

 

Phenol Handling Protocol:

 

1. ALL phenol waste should be disposed of in the organic waste bottle in the fume hood located in room 362.

 

2.     The waste container must be covered with a lid when not in use (we can be fined for this).

 

3. Emptied tubes should sit in the fume hood overnight to let any remaining phenol evaporate before discarding them.

 

4. All materials contaminated with phenol must be disposed of in biohazard bags for waste processing.

 

5. When the waste container is 3/4 full, notify lab manager and helper to have waste prepared for pick-up by EH&S.
