Chemicals |
Petroleum ether is a toxic and
flammable liquid. Its vapor may travel considerable distance to source of
ignition and flash back. Container explosion may occur under fire conditions.

Equipment (PPE) |
Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety
goggles, and other protective clothing.

Environmental / Ventilation Controls |
Use in the chemical fume hood located
in either 351 or 352 . |

Special Handling Procedures & Storage Requirements |
Store in hazardous chemical storage
room.. Use only in a fume hood with all sources of ignition eliminated. |

Spill and Accident
Procedures |
Remove all sources of ignition from the
spill area. (over area with an activated carbon absorbent, take up and place
in closed container, and transport outdoors. Ventilate area and wash spill
site after material pick up is complete. In case of contact with skin or
eyes, wash copiously with water for 15 minutes. Kit located on bookcase
352. |

Waste Disposal |
Place in an appropriate container,
label with ÒHazardous Waste LabelÓ and contact EH & S (5-2848) for
collection. |
