Use of Ethyl Ether for molecular biology usage.

#2  Chemicals

Ethyl ether is considered a suspect mutagen and it extremely flammable. Its vapor may travel considerable distance.

Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and other protective clothing.

Ventilation Controls

Use in the chemical fume hood located in either 351 or 352

#5  Special Handling Procedures & Storage Requirements

Store in base cabinets of fume hoods or  hazardous chemical storage room 3^rd floor..  Use only in a fume hood with all sources of ignition eliminated.

#6  Spill and Accident                         Procedures

 In case of contact, immediately flush with copious water for  at least 15 minutes. Cover the spill with an activated carbon absorbent, take up and place in a closed container, and transport outdoors. Ventilate area and wash spill site after material pickup is complete.

#7  Waste Disposal

Place in an appropriate container, label with “Hazardous Waste Label” and contact EH & S (5-2848) for collection.
